You quickly forget what you didn’t know. When I think back to the start of my running journey I remember wanting to get fit and be a runner but not knowing where to begin. How often should I exercise? How long should I exercise for? Should I just go out and run? I don’t think I could do more than a few seconds. Do I need to stretch? What stretches should I do and when should I do them? People talk about strength exercises being important but which ones do I need to do? How do I do them properly? How many should I do? And that’s just the practical stuff, there’s the psychological side too. How do I keep motivated? What if it all goes wrong? What if I’m ill and miss a week? How do I track my progress? You know what – it’s all very overwhelming! No wonder many people don’t even start.

If you exercise regularly have a think back to how you felt and what you didn’t know. It’s great to encourage our friends and family to be active but sometimes, without meaning to, the exercise we do can be quite intimidating. Even though we know what we do is achievable (because we managed it), we can still appear quite advanced to the complete beginner.

I’ve been working with 261 Fearless to create something to help women to get active. To answer all those questions and literally guide women with every step. The programme is called Activate You and it launches on the 1st June 2021. It’s a 12 week online programme that will help women to love exercise, begin running (if they want to, they can stick with the walking if they prefer) and to make being active part of their every day habits. Do you know a woman who might like to join this programme?

Here’s what it includes:

  • A 12 week activity calendar with a new window to open every day
  • A journal to track your progress and help you change your behaviour
  • A closed facebook group for support and motivation
  • Access to online 261 Fearless monthly group exercise classes and Open House discussions.

Behind every window on the calendar is a different activity. You’ll find video and audio workouts, motivational stories, games, competitions and more. It’s carefully designed to gradually increase the frequency and length of exercise so that by week 12, you will be meeting the World Health Organisation guidelines for physical activity. You’ll go from just a few minutes of walking to 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise and at least two muscle strengthening sessions per week by the end of the programme. You’ll be able to exercise for 45 minutes without stopping and that includes 25 minutes of continuous running, if that’s what you want to do.

It has been a lot of fun creating it but it has also been really hard work. The whole team has been striving to make something that is useful, enjoyable and that will create long term change and good habits. I think we’ve done a great job and am proud of Activate You. We just need to get it out into the world so women can benefit from it. Please tell you friends and share it, every woman deserves to experience the joy and good health that being active brings.

You can pre-register before the 1st June 2021 and go straight to registration after launch day. The cost is 99p per day and there’s a 7 day free trial so you can see what you think. You can register any time up to the end of August.

If you want to make a change but don’t know how or if you know a woman who needs a helping hand then make this journey with us, let us help you. Be Fearless. Activate You! Find out more and register here.
