Hiking in the Howgills

Have you heard of the Howgills? The Howgill Fells are those amazing hills that are on your right as you drive north up the M6 when you’re past Kendal. Everyone tends to turn left and head into the Lake District but you really are missing a treat if you don’t turn right instead and spend some time in these majestic hills which are just as stunning and far less busy than their easterly neighbours.

Active Women Interview – meet Dr Becca Moore

Get yourself a cuppa and prepare to be motivated and inspired by this Active Woman Interview. From life threatening asthma to post natal depression, from being a role model to pre-menstrual syndrome, Dr Becca Moore covers it all and gives some fantastic advice for women who want to get active too. Tell us a bit about yourself Becca. I am a perinatal psychiatrist with 20 years expertise of working with women, pre during and post pregnancy. I work in the NHS and privately and I work very holistically aiming to give women as many treatment options and choices as possible to develop a collaborative treatment plan. This includes thinking about diet, exercise, hormones and complementary treatments as a standard part of care alongside more traditional treatments such as therapy and/or medication. I lecture and blog widely and run an annual Birth Trauma Training Day in London, the next one is 5/1/18 (contact me at Rebecca.moore2@nhs.net for booking). I am writing my first book on reducing psychological birth trauma due to be published 2018. I am a Winston Churchill Fellow 2017 funded to travel …

No, I’m talking about something entirely different. Are you like me? Always so busy, rushing around, trying to cram as much into each day as you possibly can? A successful day is one when everything is ticked off on the long to-do list? Children have an entirely different agenda, they see the world through completely different eyes. Today was a good reminder to me that we all need to slow down, stop, look and listen. We’re missing so much …

Man cycling exercise

Exercise or the pub? What did the nation choose?

Anyone else getting the feeling that more and more people are exercising? I know lots of women who are starting to run, the numbers of cyclists streaming past my house at the weekend has risen dramatically and I’m sure there’s more people wandering round the supermarket in trainers and lycra! Looking on-line, the exercise forums are flourishing, #thisgirlcan is everywhere and more and more decent kit is tempting me. I was hoping that as a nation we’re starting to make a change but I wondered if it was just my own view of the world; a bit like when I was shopping for my first pram, I saw them everywhere! Wouldn’t we rather just go down the pub? Well, fear not, a new survey hasn’t burst my bubble, only blown it a bit bigger!
