I can’t believe it’s been eight months since my first book Sorted; The Active Woman’s Guide to Health was published. I put my heart and soul and a large chunk of my life into writing it. I simply wanted to share my knowledge from my time as a GP and as an active woman myself. There are so many barriers and niggles (many are taboo topics) that pop up and prevent women from getting or staying active and I wanted to show that with some friendly advice and guidance these can be overcome and exercise can be enjoyed.
It has been so wonderful to see reader’s reactions. Here are some of the amazing reviews I have had:
I’m so touched by reviews like these. They make all those VERY early mornings and life juggling worthwhile. Women are telling me they keep picking it up and putting it down. That’s exactly why I set it out into short readable chunks, I know how hard it is to find the time to sit and read a book – this way you can just dip into the bits you need, as and when you need them.
One of the other lovely things that’s happened is women sending me photos on social media of them reading the book. I LOVE these. It’s so amazing to know that Sorted has been packed into suitcases and taken on holiday and enjoyed by the pool, indulged in by the fire with a glass of wine and also given strength to someone in a hospital bed!
It’s a very weird feeling to walk into a book shop and see your own book on the shelf. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it. My kids have taken great pleasure in spotting it and ‘rearranging’ the shelves!
I get quite emotional when I think about all the wonderful people that helped me on my book journey. I’ve had incredible support from family, friends and my amazing followers on social media who not only shared their some of their personal health issues to go in the book but have really championed it since publication day. I’m so grateful to all these amazing #activewomen and men.
I’ve been honoured to have Sorted mentioned in many high profile magazines and websites such as Women’s Running, Top Sante, Health and Fitness, Natural Lifestyle, Prima, Women’s Fitness, Waterstones, net doctor, HonestMum and lots more. Wow, just wow!
A special moment was when I got the little Best Seller sign on Amazon – for being number 1 in the Sports Injuries category, number 2 in Multidiscipline Sports and number 7 in Running and Jogging.
I’ve been truly bowled over by the support and if I’m honest, I still can’t believe I actually did it. I sometimes pick it up and look at it and think, “Goodness, I wrote that!” To me it’s another example of wanting to achieve a goal and breaking it down into small chunks. Moving forwards a little bit at at a time. It’s not easy but eventually you get to the end. I’m proud of the end result. I sincerely hope you enjoy it and that it will help you and all the active women in your lives to get sorted!
p.s – keep those photos coming on social media!
